Maker Standards
Last updated: October 2026
Filagora is a marketplace for things that come off a 3D printer, and for the files to print them. These standards explain what you can sell, and the three questions every listing answers so buyers know exactly what they're getting.
1. Licensed designs are welcome here
Since June 2025, Etsy has only allowed 3D-printed items made from the seller's own original designs, which pushed out thousands of print shops that sell properly licensed models. Filagora takes a different view: printing is a craft in its own right.
You can sell prints of your own designs, of designs you've licensed from their designer, and of openly licensed models — as long as the licence allows it and you credit the designer.
2. What counts as 3D printed
Every physical item must be mostly 3D printed. Any material and any printing technology counts — plastics, resin, nylon, metal, ceramic and more.
- Painting, sanding, finishing and assembly are part of the craft — go for it.
- Non-printed parts are fine too: electronics, LEDs, magnets, screws and other hardware, fabric, cords, bases.
- The rule: the printed parts must be the main body of the item. A store-bought lamp with a printed clip isn't a printed lamp.
3. The three questions every listing answers
The "How it's made" section of the listing form asks these, and the answers appear on your listing page.
- Who designed it? My own design · another designer, and I hold a commercial licence (for example a merchant tier or a purchased licence) · an open licence that allows commercial use (CC BY, CC BY-SA or CC0). For anything that isn't your own design, credit the designer and name the licence.
- Who prints it? My shop · a production partner. If a partner prints for you, name them and say where they are. You're still responsible for quality, shipping and service.
- How much is printed? Entirely · mostly (with non-printed parts such as electronics or hardware).
4. Licences at a glance
Can you sell physical prints, and can you sell the file?
- Your own design → prints: yes · file: yes.
- Commercial licence from the designer → prints: yes, within that licence's terms, with credit · file: no.
- CC0 or CC BY → prints: yes, with credit · file: only your own remix, credited.
- CC BY-SA → prints: yes, with credit · file: only your own remix, credited and shared under CC BY-SA (so buyers may share it too).
- CC BY-ND → prints: yes, of the unmodified model only, with credit · file: no.
- Any NC licence (CC BY-NC, BY-NC-SA, BY-NC-ND) → prints: no · file: no.
- Personal-use only, or no licence stated → prints: no · file: no — unless the designer gives you a commercial licence.
- A file bought on Filagora with a Commercial use licence → prints: yes · file: no.
Fan art is a separate question: characters, logos and brands need a licence from their owner, whoever designed the model. See the IP & Takedown Policy.
5. Digital files
You can sell a file only if it's your own design, or a credited remix of an openly licensed model whose licence allows commercial derivatives (CC0, CC BY, CC BY-SA). Never sell someone else's files — not even with a commercial licence, because a licence to sell prints is not a licence to sell the file.
6. Not allowed
- Reselling mass-produced or injection-moulded items, or anything you didn't make.
- Dropshipping — listing items that another business makes and ships without being your production partner.
- Presenting renders as photos. Physical listings need at least one real photo of the actual print.
- AI-generated designs without saying so in the listing.
- Scanned copies of other people's sculptures, figures or products.
7. Keep your proof
Keep a copy of every licence you rely on — the receipt for a commercial licence, a screenshot of the model page showing its open licence — and your production partner's details. We may ask for them when a listing is reported or reviewed. Licences can be sent to support@filagora.com; you'll be able to attach them to listings later.
8. If a listing doesn't meet the standards
We'll usually ask you to fix it first — add a credit, a real photo, or the partner's name. Listings that can't meet the standards are removed, and repeated or deliberate breaches follow the enforcement steps in the Seller Policy.
